MeteoWind 2 advantages to compared with other MEASNET classified anemometers
QUESTION: Could you advise on MeteoWind 2 advantages in commonly used in MEASNET applications compared with Thies First Class Advanced (FCA) p/n: 4.3351.10.000?
Below are just a few advantages of MeteoWind 2 over Thies First Class and other anemometers for wind resource assessment:
Your wind speed and wind direction data is gathered together just like in a 3D ultrasonic anemometer, but more accurately and with lower power consumption and without the risk of bird damage to the anemometer. Thies, NGR, Vector, Riso anemometers all require wind vane mounting away from the anemometer to reduce the effect of the wind vane causing wind speed errors due to wind shadow effects.
As shown in the accompanying wind tunnel test results, you can see that MeteoWind 2 has virtually zero variation of accuracy with air temperature changes, unlike its above-mentioned competition, thus a heated version is not required for all but winter applications where melting snow and ice is desired for 100% uptime in year round operation.
MeteoWind 2 has a much lower variation of accuracy with air density (air pressure) than its above-mentioned competition, thus it does not require compensation for air density changes like Thies First Class anemometers do. This is due to the inherent linearity and precision of the patented elliptical cup design throughout a very wide Reynolds number range.
Step response is faster than Thies anemometers and wind vanes.
Lower power consumption than Thies anemometer and wind vane together.
Simpler installation of one sensor for wind speed and wind direction
Less cables = higher reliability, lower costs, simpler and faster installation...
Less connectors & connections = higher reliability, simpler and faster installation...
3x stronger lightning protection: Triple layer lighting protection to the highest standards per IEC cannot be matched by any analog output sensor.
over voltage protection
high speed over-current protection
high speed voltage protection
EMC emissions according to EN50081-1 / IEC61000-6-1
EMI transients according to EN50081-1 / IEC61000-6-2
surge test 4 kV / 2 kA according to EN50082-2 / IEC61000-6-2
ESD 15000 V (15 kV)
Wind speed is measured at 10Hz and at user-defined intervals (usually 1 sec) the 1 second average wind speed and maximum wind speed are available from the instrument.
Calibration settings can be written into the anemometer if desired.
MeteoWind 2 is approved for Civil Aviation use in airport weather stations.
Yes, we should also mention the cost advantage of MeteoWind 2 versus Thies anemometer and wind vane.
It has been in service for years in very tough environments world wide.
Classification testing of MeteoWInd 2 has begun, so if all goes well, which it should, in about 9..12 months, MeteoWind 2 will be classified.
